Construction of the Informatics and Culture building of the local community of Vouton of the Municipality of Heraklion
The plot is located in the center of the settlement near the Holy Temple of the Assumption of Virgin Mary. South and east the municipal plot is in contact with the properties of the Holy Temple of the Assumption of the Virgin, while the northern side of the land is private and it has buildings and fences in contact with the common boundary, which are even rough constructions.
The siting of the building was based on its mild integration into space and the least possible nuisance to the dominant monument. Despite the irregular shape of the site, which creates inherent difficulties in siting, the new building volume is placed in contact with the northern boundary alongside the monument and at the widest possible distance from it so as not to disturb the observer’s view that approaches the monument from the east. Also, the new building has one storey height so it does not work in a competitive way.
