Cultural Activities Cultural Center of the “Panagia Voutiani” Cultural and Cultural Heritage Association

The project is located in the Municipality of Vouton, in the Municipality of Heraklion, specifically on a plot near ION. Dormition of Theotokou Vouton, within the settlement, which was constructed as a Cultural Activities Area of ​​the Panagia Voutiani Cultural and Cultural Heritage Association.

The proximity of the site to the historic building of the two-aisled Temple (19th century) gives the layout and shaping of the new building special features to adapt to the particular historical environment while upgrading the overall image of the site.

The volume of the building and consequently its height is limited to the level of the ground level of the Temple in order to impart the sense of the united space to the level of the Temple bearing without interfering in the form of a solid volume above it which would create a visual nuisance and a sense of encroachment on the dominant monument.

As regards the way the building was overlapped, the roof was chosen because it is a feature of the local architectural tradition.
